5 People Reacting to the Same Thing - Series One, Two & Three
For many reasons, we constantly adopt a social veneer. This veneer is the edited version of ourselves that we deem presentable to those around us. Naturally this veneer varies depending on the context of our environment (what we choose to reveal to new acquaintances, work colleagues and sexual partners differs dramatically) but rarely is it more rigidly erected than when faced with a camera.
Why? Because that tiny little box holds the potential to reproduce our image, our visual currency, a million times over. Therefore, when we are aware of such disastrous or resplendent (depending on ones own self-image) reproductive possibilities we become extremely self-aware and determined to compose our most endearing qualities for consumption.
With ‘5 People Reacting to the Same Thing – Series 1, 2 & 3’ I have removed this veneer by placing the subject in a situation where they are forced, momentarily, to forget about the cameras presence. The outcome is a series of images where the viewer is presented with an uninhibited emotion, rather than a response that the subject has chosen to reveal.
